hohoho,

today was the day for the Retail Reality Challenge. organised by the cold storage company. this was the qualifying round and there were 84 teams of 4 vying for the top prize of $3000 and other perquisites included. the task, sell as many potato chips and mineral water within 1hr. a lot of people were there for the prize. i was there to have fun. lots of it.

we had to gather at the youth park at 8.30am in the morning for the registration. and all hell broke loose when mother nature decided to have a little fun. it got really wet. it was raining. mind you, it wasnt raining cats and dogs, it was raining cows and hippos and rhinoceros and elephants and whales. well, u get the picture. so we took a cab and zoomed to the youth park which didnt really have a proper shelter. they were loads of people there. it was damn crowded but the vibe was high. everyone was in a good mood sourcing the area for the competitors.

there was a cheering thing going on from the different polys. our was really, erm, to put it nicely, spontaneous. this was how it went... "SHORT AND SWEET, MOST ESTABLISHED, SINGAPORE POLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and add a lot of screaming at the end. yeah. spontaneous. lol.

we were given a tshirt with the logo on it for the competition. some took the effort to decorate them while some prefered the minimalist look. in the case of my team. out shirts were walking advertisement signboards. it had the name of the items we were selling and the price. and oh yah, tonnes of glitter. i had glitter on my hair, face, arms , bags, t shirt, jeans, shoes. and ever heard the story about this guy that whatever he touch turns to gold, well, whatever i touch glittered.lol.

anyway. all teams are separted to 7elevens around singapore. ours was located in bedok. so we took the train looking all glittery. everyone was staring at us. haha. 'let them look , let them stare, what the fuck, i dont care.' haha.

reached there and spoke to our game marshalls. we were early so we decided to look around for a styrofoam box to keep our mineral water cold. rushed to the market 7 blocks away and got it for free from a store selling chicken. well, the box smelt like chicken too. so we went to buy lemon to make it smell better. it worked. yippie. rushed back and did the setting up of our store. everyting was set up nicely. so we decided to practice our 'opening ceremony'. i brought a horn(the one that makes noise not the one to put on ur head) and the other 3 members had whistles. main purpose is to attract attention. the opening ceremony was all of us stand outside our stall and..

let honk represent the sound of the horn each time i pressed it.
let peep represent the sound of the whistle per blow.

'honk honk honk, peep peep peep, honk, peep, honk, peep, honk, peep peep peep.'

it certainly attract attention. we started selling like no tomorrow. enthusiam and morale was high but the only thing was the place damn deserted and very few people only. the next door shop lend us their radio and 7eleven people lent us a table. the people working there are all very nice people. so we screamed, whistled and honk. and in the end, we made a total profit of $94.40. we sold 108 bags of potato chips and a pathetic 10 bottles of mineral water.

i believe my group did an excellent job. it isnt easy selling so many stuff within one hour but we managed. what matters is we had loads of fun. i had so much fun today!!!
